NFL leaves open possibility of another Wednesday night season-opening game
The NFL is leaving open the possibility that its season-opening game will be played on a Wednesday night for a second straight year, according to the chairman of its competition committee.
Last season’s opener, hosted by the New York Giants, was moved to Wednesday, instead of the usual Thursday night prior to the regular season’s first Sunday, to avoid a conflict with President Barack Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention.

When the league’s competition committee announced its proposed rule changes Thursday, it included a bylaw that would move the final preseason roster cut-down deadline for teams to the Friday before the season instead of Saturday. The same thing was done last year.
